1. What is a dermal filler injection?
Dermal filler is injected into the skin to plump it up, make it firmer and smooth out lines and wrinkles. The effects of the filler last from 8 months to 18 months depending on the type and the grade of the filler used. There is now evidence that filling wrinkles causes stretching of the skin back to its previous structure and can induce some repair of the tissue.
2. What is involved in dermal filler injections?
A topical anaesthetic may be applied 40 minutes before the procedure. The filler is injected, into the lines and defects to plump them out. Treatments usually take around 30-45 minutes. If it is your first time, we will prefer to use a little less and ask you to return 2 weeks later for review.
3. What are the risks or potential side effects of dermal filler injections?
Redness, swelling, stinging, itching and discomfort. On rare occasions patients may experience an allergic reaction. We use hyaluronic acid filler which can be dissolved if this occurs.
4. What aftercare is required for dermal filler injections?
Avoid extreme facial expressions, alcohol consumption and make-up for 24 hours. Avoid extreme sun exposure, UV light, freezing temperature and saunas for two weeks.
5. What is the cost of dermal filler injections?
The cost is based on the number of syringes and the type of filler being used.
